Fatal Claw’s build depth comes from four stacked layers. The wiki covers three of them — Claw upgrades, Engraved Skills, and Cabitz — but Memory Cards sit outside our current pages. This guide sketches the four-layer framework, explains where Memory Cards fit relative to the other three, and flags what our content pack confirms versus what is single-sourced from the competitor write-up.
If you want the underlying systems first, read Fatal Claw Ability System Explained. For build ideas using the three confirmed layers, read Fatal Claw Cabitz Builds.
The Four Layers
|| Layer | Confirmed Role | Memory Card Interaction | ||---|---|---| || Claw upgrades | Baseline damage string, upgraded by Kannium and Silver Claw level | Cards can layer on top without replacing the Claw itself | || Engravings (Engraved Skills) | Magical skills absorbed from infected; counters to enemy abilities | Cards add a parallel modifier set rather than fusing into the engraving slot | || Cabitz | Mystery stones that add abilities or customize existing ones | Cards compete with Cabitz for the same modifier budget, not the same slot | || Memory Cards | Post-1.0 collectible modifiers found in combat or exploration | Cards are the newest layer; their numbers come from community tallies, not the source pack |
The source pack describes Claw upgrades, Engraved Skills, and Cabitz in clear terms. Memory Cards are not yet named in our content pack, so any specific card list, drop-rate table, or named effect set on this page is best read as a competitor-sourced sketch rather than a verified reference.
How The Layers Stack
The order in the table is not a priority list. It is the order players tend to assemble them as the route opens up:
- Claw upgrades arrive first via Kannium spend at the Claw Tree, with Silver Claw progression extending the three-hit string toward five hits (see Claw upgrade concept for the build-style framing).
- Engravings drop from infected enemies and act as named magical counters. The pack names Reien’s Covenant as a wolf-related engraving added in Early Access Expansion 2.
- Cabitz is a modifier stone that adds abilities or customizes existing ones; the Fine-Tuned! achievement confirms equipping Cabitz matters mechanically.
- Memory Cards are a separate collectible pool. They modify the build without slotting into the same engine as Cabitz, so a build can hold both at once — but they compete for the modifier budget, meaning heavy Card investment can starve Cabitz slots and vice versa.
Memory Card Interactions
The competitor fatalclawwiki.wiki guide describes three interaction rules that match what our content pack hints at:
- Slot independence. A Card does not consume a Cabitz socket. You can run a full Cabitz setup and still layer Cards on top.
- Slot budget. Both layers pull from the same modifier budget — the pool of stat or effect slots a build can carry. Splitting attention between the two means neither layer reaches its ceiling.
- Drop behavior. Cards are described as a post-1.0 addition, found through combat or exploration loot tables. Our content pack does not confirm specific drop locations, so treat any card-location table on other sites as single-sourced.
Build archetypes split cleanly on whether they lean into Cards or skip them:
|| Archetype | Layer Focus | Memory Card Stance | ||---|---|---| || Claw Pressure | Claw upgrades + Kannium | Skip Cards; every modifier goes into the Claw string | || Engraved Counter | Engravings + Cabitz fusion | Light Card use, only for slots Cabitz cannot cover | || Cabitz Purist | Cabitz at full slot count | Skip Cards; Cabitz budget is already at ceiling | || Card Stack | Memory Cards + thin Cabitz | Heavy Card use; Cabitz reduced to bare necessities | || Hybrid Pivot | Engravings + Cards, no Claw commit | Swap between Card loadouts per encounter |
For the moment, the only verified layer is the three our content pack describes. Treat the Card column as a working hypothesis until a future hotfix or source-pack revision names cards directly.
Honest Gaps
- No named Memory Cards in our content pack. Our hotfix notes (1.0.8, 1.0.27, 1.0.38, 1.0.41, 1.0.54, 1.0.58) and the eight existing Boss guides, ability pages, and region guides do not name a single Memory Card. The 1.0.38 hotfix mentions Snaga’s Lightning Chain as an inheritance skill, not a card.
- Drop rates, drop tables, and effect magnitudes are unverified. Any specific number on another wiki is a community tally, not a developer-confirmed stat.
- Slot counts may differ across builds. Some community guides claim Memory Cards ignore Cabitz socket limits; others claim they share the modifier budget. We do not have a confirmed answer.
- Region correlation is loose. Cards that appear in our 19 region guides are described only by generic “exploration loot” framing. Cross-referencing a specific card to a specific room is not yet safe.
If a future source-pack update or Steam announcement names cards directly, this page will be updated with verified counts and named entries.
