Fatal Claw Ability System Explained

Fatal Claw ability system explained through Mutated Abilities, Engraved Skills, Cabitz sockets, Claw upgrades, Blink, Silver Chain, and water traversal.

Fatal Claw has three named ability systems in the source pack: Mutated Abilities, Engraved Skills, and Cabitz. It also has related upgrade and movement systems such as Kannium, Silver Claw, Blink, Lyani’s Claws, glide, wall climb, and Silver Chain. The result is a game where a new tool may be a combat option, a traversal key, a route hint, or all three at once.

This guide explains the confirmed structure without inventing a full ability list. For loadout planning, use Fatal Claw Cabitz Builds. For the four combat verbs that sit underneath the system, use How to Play Fatal Claw.

The Three Main Ability Systems

SystemConfirmed RoleHow To Think About It
Mutated AbilitiesUnlocked by absorbing infected; traversal and attack optionsNew ways to move, reach, or interact with routes
Engraved SkillsMagical skills absorbed from infected; counters to enemy abilitiesAnswers to patterns the basic Claw cannot handle cleanly
CabitzMysterious magic stone; adds abilities or customizes existing onesBuild layer for shaping skills and playstyle

The source pack also says Engraved Skills can be customized or fused via Cabitz. That means the systems are not isolated. A route unlock can change combat, and a combat skill can become stronger when Cabitz supports it.

Mutated Abilities

Mutated Abilities are described as traversal and attack options unlocked by absorbing infected. The pack does not provide a complete confirmed list, but it names Meditation of Jibanam as a mutation ability related to water. The achievement Water Cat is tied to overcoming fear of water with Meditation of Jibanam.

That makes Mutated Abilities especially important for route logic. A blocked room is not always a puzzle you can solve now. It may be waiting for a mutation. Lower Moss Cave is tied to Jibanam forest-gone-wrong notes and water matters. Water Sanctuary requires Meditation of Jibanam for the Third Key of Hope. When you see a blue barrier, water route, or unreachable passage, mark it and return after the relevant ability unlock.

The Fatal Claw Walkthrough uses Mutated Abilities as route gates rather than pretending every room is available from the start.

Engraved Skills

Engraved Skills are magical skills absorbed from infected enemies. The source pack defines them as counters to enemy abilities. It also names Reien’s Covenant as a wolf-related Engraved Skill added during Early Access Expansion 2 and associated with Enma’s broader wolf-spirit context.

The key word is counter. If you are losing because a basic Claw string cannot safely reach, cannot interrupt, or cannot answer a pattern, think about Engraved Skills before blaming your route. These skills are part of the combat verb set, not a separate menu-only layer.

Because Cabitz can customize or fuse Engraved Skills, your magic plan should be flexible. Do not assume one skill will carry every region. Fatal Claw has early laboratory rooms, cave routes, quarry movement, dark canyon pressure, castle hubs, frozen areas, dungeons, energy belts, manor story routes, marsh hazards, and final spire content. Different problems deserve different answers.

Cabitz

Cabitz is a mysterious magic stone system. The source pack says it can add new abilities or customize existing ones, and the Steam achievement Fine-Tuned! is tied to equipping Cabitz. The pack does not give confirmed socket counts or numeric bonuses, so any exact optimization chart would be unsupported.

Use Cabitz as a question system:

  • What is the current route asking me to do?
  • Am I failing because of movement, recovery, damage commitment, or enemy ability pressure?
  • Does a Cabitz choice support Blink, Engraved Skill use, Claw reliability, or exploration?
  • Should I build for a boss now or preserve comfort for a long backtracking route?

The Fatal Claw Cabitz Builds page turns those questions into practical build concepts.

Claw, Kannium, And Silver Claw

The Claw is Kisha’s basic attack string. The source pack says it starts as a three-hit string and can be upgraded to five hits with Silver Claw level. Kannium upgrades the Claw, and Claw Sharpening is the achievement for using Kannium to upgrade your Claw. Destroyed Legacy is tied to acquiring the Damaged Silver Claw.

These upgrade facts matter because the Claw is never replaced by abilities. It remains the baseline action that refills healing through combat pressure and creates safe punish windows. Even a skill-heavy build should understand when the basic attack string is enough.

Movement Tools And Route Locks

The confirmed movement list includes Dash, air dash, wall climb, glide, Lyani’s Claws, Blink, and Silver Chain. The pack notes that glide can grab walls while gliding, added after player feedback. Silver Chain is a 1.0 Aphotic Marsh ability.

Movement tools are the main reason early rooms stay relevant. A ledge in Origin Laboratory, a water path in Lower Moss Cave, a wind-updraft route in Strigine Quarry, or a late-game path after Aphotic Marsh may not be solved by better execution alone. It may require the right tool.

Use Carox to track those rooms. The Fatal Claw Beginner Tips guide explains how to keep those notes from becoming backtracking noise.
