Overview
Upper Origin Laboratory is the early vertical extension above Origin Laboratory, the place where Kisha wakes beside the life support device and begins reading Fatal Claw’s sealed-door language. The content pack only names this area as the space above the main lab, so the safest way to treat it is as an Act 1 expansion zone: still part of the opening laboratory complex, but less like a first tutorial room and more like the first test of whether you are paying attention to height, locked exits, and return routes.

The tone is controlled, artificial, and slightly unstable. Origin Laboratory introduces Kisha’s missing-memory premise; Upper Origin Laboratory asks you to climb away from that starting point while the environment keeps reminding you that the ancient Elord Kingdom’s systems are broken. Expect readable early enemies, short platforming checks, and sealed paths that may be informational rather than immediately solvable.
In difficulty terms, this should sit above the first-room onboarding but below the harsher Act 1 regions such as Black Canyon. It is a good place to practice conservative combat. Fatal Claw rewards aggression because healing orbs refill by attacking, but the upper lab punishes careless full strings when you still have a thin toolkit. Learn to take one or two Claw hits, back away, and re-enter once the enemy has committed.
How to Reach
Reach Upper Origin Laboratory from Origin Laboratory. The route begins after Kisha has basic control of movement, Claw attacks, healing, and the first laboratory door states. The source pack does not provide a room-by-room lock sequence, so do not assume a specific switch order unless your in-game map has already confirmed it.
The main requirement is early route literacy. You need the base Claw for enemies and destructible pressure, Heal for recovery management, and enough movement confidence to read vertical shafts. Blink may become relevant for cleanup after it is available, but this page does not treat Blink as a confirmed first-entry requirement for the upper lab. If a gap or sealed door looks unreasonable, mark it with Carox and continue rather than forcing a damage route.
Before leaving the lower lab, check any lever, door, or shortcut that can be activated safely. The source pack notes that Stone Warp issues in Upper Elord Castle were patched, but the general habit applies everywhere: open local infrastructure before moving on. In an early laboratory, that means making sure the climb has a return path if you spend too many healing resources.
Bosses Here
There is no named boss in the source pack, encounters use elite mobs, ordinary infected enemies, and early route pressure rather than a confirmed Upper Origin Laboratory boss arena.
Use Saitin Boss Guide as the nearest named boss reference because Saitin is tied to Origin Laboratory through the Weed Control achievement. If Upper Origin Laboratory is your first real detour above the starting area, Saitin preparation still matters: do not burn healing carelessly, practice short punishes, and learn how long Kisha remains committed after a Claw string.
For broader early boss habits, Ortrinde Boss Guide and Irbes Boss Guide are useful reads after the lab route starts opening into the wider world.
Ability Gates
Upper Origin Laboratory should be read through the game’s basic ability categories. Mutated Abilities are traversal and attack options absorbed from infected enemies, Engraved Skills are magical skills that can counter enemy abilities, Cabitz modifies or adds ability behavior, and Blink changes both combat positioning and movement puzzles. You may not have all of these at first entry, but this area teaches the habit of sorting obstacles by category.
Base movement, Claw, Heal, and Carox are the practical first-pass tools. Later cleanup can involve Blink, dash, air dash, wall climb, glide, Lyani’s Claws, Silver Claw upgrades, or Silver Chain depending on what the sealed route is asking for. Do not label every high ledge as a missed jump. Some upper-lab rooms are better treated as return notes for after the movement kit expands.
Collectibles & Secrets
The content pack confirms collectible categories such as heart pieces, mana pieces, healing pieces, Carox room pins, and memory fragments in later cycles, but it does not give an item coordinate list for Upper Origin Laboratory. A clean route therefore means disciplined mapping rather than claiming an exact pickup count.
Sweep the lower exits before climbing, then sweep the upper exits after each shortcut. Any room that shows a pickup behind a sealed door should be marked and left until the route gives a real answer. If you are returning late, re-check old laboratory rooms after Blink, Lyani’s Claws, wall climb, glide, air dash, Silver Claw, or Silver Chain. Post-epilogue cycles can replace previously collected heart or mana pieces with memory fragments, so the opening laboratory complex can matter again long after Act 1.
Region Order
Upper Origin Laboratory is route step 2 in the expanded nineteen-tile region set.
- Previous: Origin Laboratory for Kisha’s awakening, sealed doors, and Saitin context.
- Next: Lower Moss Cave for the first natural biome, Jibanam context, and water-route awareness.
Leave once the main climb is open, obvious sealed doors are marked, and you are not relying on panic heals to survive ordinary enemies.
Combat Tips
Fight like your kit is still incomplete. Small enemies are opportunities to refill blue-orb value, but only if you attack from stable spacing. Use single hits when the enemy is close to a ledge, save longer Claw strings for clear openings, and retreat before you are trapped against a sealed door or shaft wall.
Vertical rooms can make enemy contact feel worse than flat rooms because a bad hit may drop you back into a previous pocket. If a climb contains repeat threats, clear from bottom to top and use pauses between platforms to recover rhythm. Do not assume every encounter has an owl statue safety net; the source pack only confirms owl statues after bosses, and smaller elite rooms may not count.
