Mirror Chamber has a curiosity check, not a lever or rune solution. The puzzle is a recipe: a specific drink, a timer, the correct room, and an intentional death. Most players fail by trying to solve the mirrors as scenery, which is exactly what they became after the 1.0.8 hotfix. This page lays out the recipe, the timer rules, the failure modes that cost the achievement, and where to look next if the trigger does not fire.
For the region page itself, see the Mirror Chamber region guide. For broader route context, the Elord Castle region guide covers the castle return this puzzle attaches to.
Trigger Recipe
| Step | Action | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find Lara in the hub village | Lara is the drink vendor. Buy Adrian’s Tea from her inventory, do not pick a substitute. |
| 2 | Drink the tea immediately | The effect is time-limited. If you set the drink down, sell it, or carry it to a checkpoint, the timer is already bleeding. |
| 3 | Fast-travel to Elord Castle | Stone Warp to the castle anchor. Do not waste the buff running back from the hub on foot. |
| 4 | Enter Mirror Chamber before the tea effect expires | The chamber sits inside the castle’s backtracking wing. Reach it while the buff is still active. |
| 5 | Die inside the chamber | Method does not matter. Spike, enemy, fall — anything that registers a death inside the room counts. |
The five-step combination is the entire puzzle. Nothing on the mirror surfaces themselves unlocks anything.
Why Players Get Stuck
The mirrors look interactive, which is the trap. The 1.0.8 hotfix removed wall-climbing the reflective surfaces, so the visual clue now reads as scenery. Anyone trying to climb, attack, or solve the mirrors as a platforming puzzle will burn the timer and miss the achievement.
The three most common failure modes:
- Wrong drink. Lara’s stock carries more than one option. Adrian’s Tea is the named trigger; other drinks do not register.
- Expired timer. The buff is short. Doing one extra room before warping out is enough to lose it.
- Death in the corridor. The trigger only counts a death registered inside the chamber. Dying one screen earlier in the approach corridor does not unlock anything.
The Achievement
Unlocking the recipe triggers the Steam achievement Curiosity Killed the Cat, sitting at 15.9% of players globally per Steam’s achievement stats. The achievement description reads: “Curiosity killed the cat. But… a cat has nine lives.”
The achievement is curiosity-only. It does not open new routes, hand out Cabitz, or change file state. Treat it as a checklist item rather than a progression gate.
After The Trigger
Once Curiosity Killed the Cat fires, the mirrors stay as scenery. Mirror Chamber remains a backtracking location tied to a castle return, so the Mirror Chamber region guide is still the right reference for any late-cleanup route questions around it.
If the trigger does not fire on a clean run, double-check that you bought the named tea (not a generic potion), drank it before warping, and actually died inside the chamber room rather than just outside it.
