The Cure Questline Guide - Fatal Claw Wiki

The Cure questline in Fatal Claw is the late-game remedy route tied to Nia's infection state, gated by sanctuary unlocks and the cure-administration threshold.

The Cure is the questline that decides what happens to Nia, and it sits late enough in the route that it overlaps with both ending preparation and late-route backtracking. The mechanics in our pack make the threshold explicit: AZSR-01 (the cure) can be administered to Nia only when exactly two of the three sanctuaries are open. Administering it after the third sanctuary unlocks kills her. That single rule is the spine of the whole questline, and it is the most-missed mechanic in the game.

The questline is also the reason the Walkthrough page flags a specific threshold callout. If you arrive at the cure prompt with all three Keys of Hope already collected, the prompt does not appear as usable, and many players read that as a dialogue bug. It is not a bug. It is the threshold condition.

Questline Trigger

Trigger ConditionWhat Has To Be TrueWhere The Prompt Appears
AZSR-01 in inventoryItem has been crafted or recovered from a story locationCure administration scene, story-tied
Two sanctuaries unsealedFirst Key + Second Key collected, or any two of threeQuest progresses past the gather stage
Third sanctuary still sealedWater Sanctuary / Third Key not yet collectedThreshold remains open
Nia in infection stateInfection progression has reached the cure windowConversation changes the moment the threshold is met

The trigger is the intersection of these conditions. Missing any one stalls the questline. Most stalls come from a player who already collected all three sanctuary rewards, in which case the cure cannot be administered — it does not matter that AZSR-01 is in the inventory.

Step-By-Step (Working Sequence)

The exact step labels vary across sources, and our pack gives the structural rules without locking the in-line quest titles. The schematic matches what the Walkthrough, NPC vendor index, and 1.0.38 hotfix notes together imply.

  1. Reach the cure trigger. Story progression routes you to the cure-administration scene. This is the moment the threshold is checked, not the moment AZSR-01 is used.
  2. Confirm two sanctuaries are open. First Key of Hope (Stone Sanctuary) and Second Key of Hope (Kannir Sanctuary) are the cleanest pair. Third Key (Water Sanctuary) must still be sealed.
  3. Recover AZSR-01. The item lives at a story location; consult the Walkthrough for the specific region. Do not administer it before threshold is met.
  4. Administer the cure. Use the cure on Nia before the third sanctuary opens. The threshold is binary at this point.
  5. Watch the aftermath. Nia’s state changes. The Walkthrough and Endings pages describe the post-cure route branches. The 1.0.38 hotfix added infection-state expressions to Jack, Mark, and Rotri; Nia’s cure is part of the same narrative beat.
  6. Backtrack the third sanctuary if you still want it. Water Sanctuary becomes reachable after cure, but the cure-administration window has closed. Use Meditation of Jibanam to finish the route.
  7. Resolve the ending cycle. Cure state affects Stone of Narrative segments and ending cycles per the Endings page. Plan around this if you intend a clean route.

The sequence is a guide, not a guarantee. If our content pack names a step differently in a future revision, this page should be rewritten to match rather than treated as authoritative.

NPCs Involved

The cure thread crosses several named NPCs. Our pack confirms Kisha as protagonist; the Nia-recovery and cure-administration beats happen inside the story.

  • Kisha. The protagonist. The cure-administration prompt is keyed to her inventory and her progress through the sanctuary thresholds.
  • Nia. The infection-state character. Cure changes her state directly. Her post-cure arc affects ending branches.
  • Vendors involved in remedy crafting. Lara and other vendor NPCs from the NPC vendor index are part of the broader remedy thread. Cross-link the NPC vendor index for cure-component sourcing rather than assuming Lara alone is the vendor.

Rewards

RewardTriggerWhat It Does
Story state — Nia curedAdminister cure before third sanctuary opensNia survives the infection arc, route branches change
Achievement — likely tied to Nia recoveryCure administered; achievement name not confirmed in our packFlag for cross-reference once Steam achievement list is updated in our pack
Route branchesCure state vs no-cure stateEndings page covers branch outcomes
Cabitz / Build freedomLate game opens up regardless of cure choiceLess about cure specifically, more about post-Act-2 routing

The achievement reward is flagged as unverified. Our pack does not name the specific achievement for cure administration, but the Steam achievement list (51 entries) almost certainly contains one. Cross-link the Achievements guide once the exact name is confirmed.

The Threshold Callout

The cure mechanic is the single most-missed rule in the late game, and the Walkthrough page already calls it out as a <div class="callout callout-caution"> block. The full quote: silver confirmed on the Steam Community Hub thread that the cure can only be administered with exactly two of three sanctuaries unsealed, and that holding the cure item with all three cleared will not offer a usable prompt. This is consistent with how the cure threshold has been described in our content pack since the 1.0.38 hotfix.

Honest Gaps

  • Exact quest step labels vary by source. The seven-step sketch above is a working reconstruction. Our pack gives the structural rules (threshold, cure item, infection state) but does not pin down the in-line quest titles. Treat the sequence as a guide, not a definitive walkthrough.
  • Vendor identity for cure-component sourcing is partial. Our pack confirms Lara, but the broader NPC vendor index is a separate page; cross-link there rather than claiming a single source here.
  • Achievement name and reward timing are unverified. Steam lists 51 achievements globally, but our pack does not name the cure-specific one. This page flags the achievement as expected without inventing the name.
  • Post-cure route branch labels are not confirmed. The Endings page covers Stone of Narrative and New Game Plus; this guide does not duplicate ending specifics.

When a future content pack revision names the quest steps and the cure achievement directly, this page becomes a hub for cross-links to those pages rather than a working sketch.
